Basically, Bitcoin mining is giving computing power to confirm transactions.
Looking for Bitcoin mining on a server?
I’m mining with CPU power, nog GPU or ASICS, using cpuminer: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cpuminer/files/. Download the latest version for Linux, 32 or 64 bits. Unpack it and you are ready to go on software level.
Best is to do Pooled Mining, to mine together with other people and get much faster a (Bitcoin) reward. I’m using https://mining.bitcoin.cz. Register an account at https://mining.bitcoin.cz/accounts/register/ and you can start.
In the command line, where you have the mining software, run:

[...]Of course CoolUsername.worker1:SomePassword must fit your username and password. Threads must be the number of Cores you want to use for cpuminer. That’s it!
Best is to run cpuminer inside screen. That way it keeps running when you leave the server :]
